Master Yong Soon Choi was born in Seoul, South Korea, and immigrated to the United States in 1972. She started training in Tae Kwon Do in 1974. She is now a 6th degree WTF black belt with over 25 years of teaching experience. Master Choi is also one of only 40 female International Referees in the world. In 1999, she received a Presidential Sports Award from President Bill Clinton. She was also selected as an official delegate to represent the United States Tae Kwon Do Union for the 2000 Summer Olympic games in Sydney, Australia. For the last several years, Master Choi has served as Chairwoman for the California State Junior Olympics. Her responsibilities have included overall tournament organization as well as referee training.
Master Yong Soon Choi's teaching philosophy is to keep the lessons traditional, simple, and age appropriate. She places a strong emphasis on Tae Kwon Do basics, so that students have a solid foundation on which to build and grow as a martial artist.
